Permission scopes define exactly what an email tool can read or do inside a mailbox.
User Permission Scopes are the access boundaries set when a user connects Gmail or Outlook to an email automation tool. Scopes decide whether an app can read messages, send emails, manage drafts, or access labels and settings. The best practice is least-privilege: request only what’s required for the feature. Clear scope design reduces risk in security reviews and builds user trust. In productivity platforms, scopes often differentiate between “read-only inbox assistant” and “send-enabled automation.” Always document scopes in plain language and support easy revocation.
