JPG to PNG: what’s different

A PNG copy can be useful for a workflow that requires PNG or for further edits that should not introduce another lossy JPG encoding step. The original JPG remains unchanged.

PNG cannot recover detail already lost in the JPG, and changing the format alone does not remove its background. A photo may also become larger as PNG.

What works

  • Use original dimensions when a downstream editor needs the full picture.
  • Compare the actual output size before choosing PNG for a web photograph.
  • Use the background remover separately if you need to cut out a subject.

How to use it

  1. 1.Drop your images or try the sample photograph.
  2. 2.Choose the output format, quality, longest edge and background settings.
  3. 3.Download individual images or the complete batch as a zip.

Questions

Does PNG improve a blurry JPG?

No. Changing the container does not recover lost picture detail.

Will the background become transparent?

No. Existing picture pixels remain. Use a background removal tool if you need a cut-out.

Why can PNG be larger?

PNG uses a different compression method. Photographs often need more bytes than a JPG at comparable dimensions.
